<Your BBS Address>.bbses.org : Convert Your Dynamic IP to a Static Name

Some sysops have problems with their Internet Service Providers. One major problem is Internet connections that have regularly changing addresses. Without some known address that will be working tomorrow as well as today often requires some special configuration that will provide for some sort of conversion of one's changing IP address to a static (unchanging) domain name. Here is how it works: a sysop communicates with The PHATstar Society (usually by society@phatstar.org) and asks to have a DNS redirect up using the bbses.org system. We will put the settings where they are supposed to be, and you will be provided with a small computer application that tests your DNS address number and if it is the same it will leave it in place, however if it has changed then the application updates the Dynamic DNS settings on our Society server that deals with this type of thing. You can set the update check to happen at any arbitrary delay. The service is provided for free to the BBSing community, however we reserve the right to pick and choose who we will accept on our systems. We don't want porn or warez boards on our systems, but for 90% of sysops we will welcome them with a totally free service. The software used to update the address of the sysop's BBS works on both Windows and Linux. Here is an example of how this all works:

(1) Contact PHATstar (2) Pick Your DNS Name (3) Download the Updater App (4) Set The Configuration With The Proper Settings (provided by The Society) (5) Run The Updater App and Chose The Option to Have it Run on Boot-up

... then you're good to go.
